dogCatch Up On the Most Commonly Diagnosed Infectious Diseases

About the Course...

Diagnosing infectious diseases has recently become a “SNAP”. But what does a positive test result
really mean? EHRLICHIA, ANAPLASMA, LYME and HEARTWORM DISEASE will be discussed.
An update on these diseases, interpretation of test results and treatment will be covered.

A recent “hot topic” in the popular press has been infections with MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staph. aureus).
How concerned should the veterinary profession be with these antibiotic resistant infections? What information should
we be giving our clients? The latest information on MRSA and MRSI infections will be provided.

BLASTOMYCOSIS is the most common systemic fungal infection in Wisconsin. Recently a urinary antigen test has
become available. How good is this test in diagnosing blastomycosis? How can it be used to direct therapy? The diagnosis
and treatment of blastomycosis will be covered.

NASAL ASPERGILLOSIS is another common fungal infection. Its diagnosis and treatment will be addressed.

LEPTOSPIROSIS will be included in the differential diagnosis list. What are its varied clinical presentations? What
is the best way to diagnose and treat leptospirosis? An update on this very common infectious disease will be presented.

ANTIBIOTICS are the most commonly prescribed medication with newer antibiotics coming on the market. What
are the differences between the various antibiotics? How can we choose the best antibiotic for our patients? These questions
and more will be answered.
